Exploration Geologist

Location: Matsitama Exploration
Position type: Permanent /Two years contract
Reporting to the Exploration Manager, responsible for identifying and assessing the location, quantity and quality of mineral deposits, ascertaining extraction risks, preparing reports and maps and analyzing geological data.
Key areas of responsibility:
• To supervise the exploration team to achieve designed work programmes through field implementation as directed by the Senior Exploration Geologist
• To ensure compliance with Matsitama Minerals reporting requirements and report on progress on a weekly basis in form of a weekly report.
• Liaison with external stakeholders in areas where work is taking place to ensure stakeholder confidence through dialogue and specific notification.
• Help in the development of cost effective exploration activities including drilling programmes through efficient management of drilling contractors and other personnel.
• Helps with the development of junior personnel to effectively contribute to the success of exploration activities
• Compilation and regular updating of SHEA aspects of all work programmes involved in for compliance and minimization of geological risks within the exploration licenses.
• The ability to supervise and manage exploration programmes including risk management as directed by the Senior Exploration Geologist.
• To effectively evaluate geological information and report correctly for economic assessment of the project assigned
• Adequate experience of geological models to determine viable exploration targets through geological modeling and GIS approach from existing or new geological and geotechnical databases
• Proven SHES skills to identify work related risks
• Investigating the structure and evolution of the earth and its natural resources
• Planning programes for exploration of sites for minerals
• Surveying and mapping geologically promising sites.
• Collecting, recording and analyzing samples and data from test sites
• Advising on the development of reserves.
Job requirements:
The ideal candidates must be/have the following:
• Knowledge of arrange of sciences and their applications
• A degree in geology is a minimum academic requirement for entry and a relevant postgraduate qualification will ne an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience as a exploration Geologist
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
• Good organizational skills
• Proven leadership skills
• Computer literacy and ability to analyse numerical and graphical data
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ensuring the accuracy of forecast is key
• Have exceptional planning and organizational abilities.
• Familiarity with best practices in Safety Health and Environmental procedures and legislation policies.
