Counselor

Work hours: full time-40 hours/ week
Interested individuals are invited to send applications for the position of counselor. This is a one-year, full-time contract position, with the option for renewal. The successful candidate will report to the counselor supervisor. This position is based in Gaborone but may require travel, with the possibility of working extra hours and in emergencies
Purpose of position
Assists survivors of gender based violence (GBV) in regaining control of their lives through counseling and other interventions that will improve their self confidence, psychological/emotional well being as well as restoring their dignity and self worth.
Key responsibilities
?Provides counseling to individuals, couples and families affected by GBV at drop in centre and shelter
?Undertake perpetrator therapeutic counseling
?Determines need for shelter admission and admits clients accordingly
?Establishes support groups with other counseling staff and acts as the facilitator for the groups progress
?Refers clients to other relevant service providers with accompanying referral documents.
?Develops counseling plans based on case trends and needs of the community
?Participates in resource mobilization efforts
?Identifies clients needs and develops appropriate intervention plant
?Follow up on clients to monitor their progress
?Prepares monthly individual and unit reports for the drop in centre
?Enters statistical data into agency database
?Undertakes such other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
?Degree in Psychology, social work, or counseling
?A minimum of 3 year experience practicing in any of the above fields
?Experience in project planning and management is an added advantage
?Drivers licence
?Excellent professional conduct and an ability to handle confidential information.
Remuneration: KSWS offers a competitive salary and also contributes 50% to medical aid.
