The Ministry of Trade and Industry seeks the services of highly motivated, experienced and self driven citizens of Botswana to fill the following vacant positions.

Vacancy circular no. 6 of 2014
Vacancy: Director – Economic Diversification Drive Unit, Ministry Headquarters
Main purpose of the job:
to direct in the day to day administration and management of the economics diversification drive unit and also ensure effective and efficient performance of the unit.
Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in Economics/Economics, Economic Development or Business administration. A post graduate qualification in these areas will be an added advantage.
Experience:
10 years experience in Administration or Business Management or related field.
Key performance areas;
• Plans, organizes and leads in all activities of the unit;
• Initiates long term strategic planning for the unit, determines priorities and directs resources accordingly;
• Carries out general supervisory responsibilities I accordance’s with the organization’s policies and laws such as interviewing, training employees, appraising performance, disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
• Coordinates and monitors budget requirements by consolidating and verifying information obtained from the department and facilitates budget utilization
• Develops responses to Parliamentary questions.
• Assesses personal knowledge and skills against job specific competencies to identify development needs and priorities.
• Motivates and encourages the staff to be responsible and self propelling in their daily duties;
• Identifies staff skills gap and determines relevant development programmes
• Translate strategies into action plans and sound policies that support the needs of the department
• Prepares cabinet and policy papers ion different subjects as necessary
• Provides mechanism for decision-making and problem solving based on careful economic and strategic analysis;
• Contributes in the development of sound operations guidelines for execution and strategy management.
• Initiates ad develops long, medium and short term plans and programmes for EDD
• Assist in defining EDD strategy success criteria ad disseminate them to involved parties
• Contribute in the reviews existing communication strategies and develops new strategies to ensure effective internal and external communication
• Contributes in the formulation ad review of the EDD policies
• Contributes in the review of Procurement policy, act and PPADB policies
• Monitors implementation of EDD strategy
• Manages financial, human and physical resources to meet EDD strategic goals.
• Supervision and monitoring of performance and quality of service provided under.
EDD UNIT
• Interprets the Technology strategies policies
• EDD Strategy
• Communication strategy
• Procurement policy and Act
• PPADB Procurement Act
• Business names and company registration
• Products standardization policies
• Provides public education through educational campaigns, publications and commentary on the impact of EDD strategies
• Ensure maintenance of professional standards, integrity and ethics in the execution of the department duties and responsibilities.

Salary scale: E1 (P349 704-P363 840 per annum)
Leave: 30 working days per annum
Benefits for both positions:
• Optional contributory medical aid scheme (government pays 50% and employee pays 50%)
• Compulsory contribution pension fund (government pays 15% and employee pays 5% for permanent and pensionable appointment)
• For new entrants at E1 salary scale, a contract of 24-36 months, with gratuity payable at the rate of 25% upon the expiration of the said contract.
