Vacancy: Principal Medical Officer - D2/D1 (2 posts)
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above posts at the Botswana Police Service. Preference shall be given to locals. The positions are tenable in Gaborone and Francistown.
Salary: D2/D1 (P210, 180-P266, 844)
Leave: 30 working days per annum
Benefits:
(i) Optional contributory medical aid scheme (government pays 50% and employee 50%)
(ii) Compulsory contributory pension scheme for permanent and personable staff (government pays 15% employee pays 5%

Qualifications:
Medical degree, doctor of medicine (M.D) or bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS)
Experience:
• Minimum of three (3) years experience at senior medical officer position or six (6) years experience as a medical officer
• Knowledge in post mortem examinations will be an added advantage
Main purpose of the job
To perform medico legal post mortem cases (road traffic accidents, suicides, traumatic deaths etc) and give expert evidence in court of law and to other relevant stakeholders.
Duties
1. Perform medico legal post mortems
2. Prepares reports on post mortem examinations and submits them to the police and relevant stakeholders.
3. Attends scenes of death in relevant cases
4. Issues notice of death to the registrar of birth and deaths after the post mortem examination
5. Issues non infectious disease certificates and completes other formalities to repatriate bodies outside the country
6. Performs age estimation of individual as may be directed by the court of law, or relevant authority
7. Advises government and stakeholders on medical aspects of law
8. Undertakes teaching of police officers, state prosecutors, and autopsy technicians on medico legal investigations and bas of forensic medicine
9. Visits mortuaries in Botswana and examines the mortuary equipment periodically to determine availability, sufficiency and serviceability
10. Will be on call periodically for forensic work of urgent nature
11. Undertakes any other related duties as may be required to meet the exigencies of the services.
Required skills and competencies:
• Appreciable knowledge in medicine, radiology and pathology.
• Functional/technical skill drive for Results Integrity and Trust Decision Quality
