Radiation Protection inspectorate exists to provide effective and efficient regulatory services for the safe use of nuclear technology to protect the public, environment and users against effects of ionizing radiation.

Vacancy circular no. 01 of 2013
Applications are invited from highly motivated and well experienced self-driven citizens of Botswana for the following vacant position in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science & Technology-Radiation Protection Inspectorate.

Vacancy: Senior Radiation Protection
Officer/Engineer (1 post)

Vacancy no. WDO 1BC
Salary: D4 (158 940 -175 476 per annum)
Leave: 30 working days per annum

Benefits:
(i) Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%)
(ii) Contributory pension scheme for permanent and Pensionable appointment (Government pays 15% and employee pays 5% of salary).
Qualification: BSc Engineering or Nuclear Physic; Radiologic Technology Masters in Engineering or Nuclear Physics; Radiologic Technology will be an added advantage.

Experience: 4 years relevant experience with emphasis on ionizing radiation safety with at least 2 years as Radiation safety with at least 2 years as Radiation Protection Officer/ Engineer 1 or equivalent.

Main purpose of the job:
To carry out radiological safety assessment and authorization of radiation sources to ensure compliance of facilities with the regulatory requirements.
Duties:
• Carries out statutory radiological safety inspections in accordance with the legislation, national and international standards.
• Develops radiological safety inspection reports.
• Issues import/export permits for radiation sources
• Assesses radiation related licence applications and submits for consideration.
• Responds to accidents/ incidents involving radiation sources
• Takes action on non-compliance to the radiation protection act and regulations
• Undertakes public awareness campaigns on safe use of nuclear technology.
• Conducts training for radiation users
• Drafts radiation safety guidelines
• Collects data and updates the Regulatory Authority Information System (RAIS).
• Coaches and mentors supervisees
• Undertakes any other related duties as required
