Post: Principal Bye-Law Enforcement Officer

Salary: C1(P123,168-P147.180) SCALE PER ANNUM

Leave: 30 working days
Qualification: diploma in law/criminal justice or related field

Experience: at least four (4) years relevant work experience, of which 2 years must have served at C2 scale as senior bye law enforcement officer or equivalent position in a parastatal.

Benefits optional contributory medical aid scheme: government pays 50% and employee 50%, contributory pension fund: government pays 15% and employee 5% and leave travel concession

Main purpose of the job:

?To supervise enforcement and prosecute cases involving violation of council bye laws and delegated legislation.

Duties:

1.Working long and awkward hours on bye laws and delegated legislation related cases
2.Exposure to danger and extensive travel(e.g. monitoring opening and closure of liquor outlets, discotheques, shebeens and noise pollution, astray animals, auction sale, joint operations pursuing defaulters who owe council service levy, unsettled fines, serving eviction orders and summons)
3.Supervise investigations of all cases involving violation of bye-law and delegated legislation and takes appropriate actions.
4.Liaise with relevant stakeholders to arrest suspects for violation of council bye- laws and delegated laws.
5.Liaises with relevant stakeholders to prosecute suspects for violation of bye laws.
6.Imposes fine on violators
7.Conducts inspection of formal and informal business sector with a view to take appropriate action.
8.Searches suspects with or with or without warrant
9.Conducts joint operations with other law enforcement agencies
10.Conducts routine patrols.
11.Serves summons and legal document on various offenders
12.Gives evidence in court.
13.Conducts meetings and workshop to educate the community on the laws and delegated legislation (kgotla, wards and community halls.
14.Supervises auction sale and disposal of confiscated/ unserviceable goods
15.Prepares, registers and service court documents(summons, subpoena, eviction orders)
16.Supervises registration and safe keeping of exhibits
17.Consolidates weekly and monthly progress report on cases.
18.Conducts research on matters concerning bye laws and delegated legislation
19.Develops educational materials related to enforcement and administration of bye laws.
20.Monitors and appraises performance of supervises
21.Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by management
