Morupule Coal Mine is situated about 14 kilometers west of Palapye along Serowe/Palapye Road.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following position of:
Maintenance Engineer - Surface Plant, Utilities and Electrical Reticulation
Job purpose
To lead,manage,supervise,and co-ordinate the maintenance of all surface plant, Townships, and Utilities equipment to ensure consistent application of the Morupule Coal Mine Asset maintenance management strategy, polices, procedures, standards and enforcement of the GRB CAP44:02 Mines,Quarries,works and Machinery Act special provisions for fiery and coal mines legal requirements at Morupule Coal Mine.
The position shall also be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, automation and instrumentation equipment are installed, maintained, examined and tested as per CAP44:02 Mines, quarries, works and Machinery Act regulation 13.1 and Debswana group of companies electrical standards at Morupule Coal Mine Operation (UNDERGROUND ,surface plant and Townships)
Key Activities
• Develops, coaches and mentors subordinates to ensure effective succession plans and maintenance quality in the section.
• Analyses the section’s financial needs to develops a budget and ensure sufficient financial resources to meet business needs cost effectively.
• Manages and controls allocated operating and capital expenditure funds within approved budget parameters.
• Translates the engineering strategy into medium/long term strategic leverage areas or interventions for development of maintenance systems to support the operations in meeting the business objectives and targets.
• Develops, reviews and schedules the medium/long term maintenance, project and developmental requirements for the operations
• Interprets strategic business plans and develops long term energy or power consumption forecast.
• Researchers the market for industry best practice principles to keep abreast of latest technological advances/development and assessments on all new methodologies and equipment to ensure applicability of implementation.
• Selects new equipment, develops technical specifications and designs details, hardware and/or software as required.
• Plans and co-ordinates the installations and commissioning of new equipment according to specifications
• Provides electrical technical support on all projects undertaken at the operation readiness.
• Establishes and sets best practice standards for equipment, taking cognizance of safety, health, environmental, technical and legislative requirements
• Ensure technical assurance of the electrical system installations requirements
• Ensures technical assurance of the electrical system installations by carrying out periodic audits, risk assessments and maintaining engineering standards.
• Manages and coordinates the implementations of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility
• Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievements of business objectives
• Initiates and coordinates the implementation of projects in accordance with project management framework.
• Adheres to all safety health and environmental policies and procedures in area of responsibility.
Minimum Education, Training and experience requirements
• Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university.
• 10 year post qualification engineering maintenance experience in a mining engineering environment including an Engineer in Training (EI) programme of 3 years.
• Member of the Botswana Institute of Engineers (BIE)
• Valid drivers licence
• Strong knowledge of safety, occupational health and Environment management systems, namely: OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001
• Proven excellent knowledge of Asset maintenance management.
• Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical machinery maintenance requirements shall be an added advantage.
