Veterinary Field Assistant
The Botswana Vaccine Institute, a self-financing commercial organization wholly owned by the Botswana Government, is a company of an international reputation committed to the production of highly quality livestock vaccines which are worldwide. Applications are invited for the position mentioned above at Sedibeng Ranch.
Main purpose of the job
To care for livestock and laboratory animals, draw blood samples and assist with the injection of test animals strictly in accordance with laid down procedures.
Position requirements:
Education: Junior Certificate; Certificate in Animal Health is preferred
Experience: At least two years experience in animal health work and knowledge of laboratory practice and procedures.

Ability to work in a team
Attention to detail
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
1. Cares for livestock and other animals used for live testing of vaccines and cleans kraals, stables and cages.
2. Feeds and wastes livestock and laboratory animals in accordance with laid down procedure
3. Draws blood samples as directed and assists in the injection of vaccines
4. Monitors and observes animals for signs of disease and reports any suspects to veterinary technician
5. Slaughters cattle and other laboratory animals as directed and ensure the safe disposal of carcasses.
6. Maintains records of livestock feed and vaccine injections as directed
7. Periodically checks feed stock levels, initiate purchase requisitions for replenishment
8. Undertakes housekeeping of work areas to ensure that animals are kept in clean , safe and secure facilities
9. Participates in the maintenance of company HSEQ policies and procedures by complying with the standards and undertaking corrective actions arising from HSEQ audits and reports.
