The Attorney General’s Chambers is an extra Ministerial Department under the Ministry of Justice Defense and Security. It exists to prosecute all criminal cases at the public instance; prosecute, defend or settle civil on behalf of Government, draft legislation; produce law reports; negotiate and draft commercial and international agreements and provide sound legal advice to Government.

The Attorney General‘s Chambers invites applications from suitably qualified citizens for the following position.
Department: Directorate of Public Prosecutions
Vacancy: Principal Prosecutions Counsel I( D1)

Main purpose of the job: To prepare for and prosecute all criminal cases at Magistrate Courts and High courts including the conduct of appeals before the court of Appeal and review of cases before the High court, inquests and drafting of documentation for extradition.

To supervise, mentor and manage subordinate officers.

Qualified applicant(s) profile. To be considered for appointment, applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Law complemented by at least eight (8) years experience. Applicants must be currently admitted to practice in the courts of Botswana in terms of the Legal Practitioners Act (cap 61:01).

Serving officers must have served at least two years D2 level post or equivalent position in the case of applicants outside the public service.

Salary scale: D1 (P234 660.00-P259, 068.00) per annum, plus 30% of basic salary as scarce skill allowance.
Leave: 30 working days per annum
Benefits: Optional contributory medical Aid scheme with 50% from Government and 50% from employee. Contributory pension scheme (Government pays 15% Employee 5%)
Robe allowance P2,283.60 per annum.
