Vacancy: Registrar and Master of the High Court of Botswana
(Tenable in Gaborone, 1 post)

The judicial service commission invites suitably qualified visionary, self-driven and results oriented Botswana citizens to apply for the post of Registrar and Master of the High Court, tenable at the Headquarters of the judiciary in Gaborone.

Main purpose of the job
To plan, manage and coordinate the successful implementation of the mandate of the Administration of justice, by performing all the functions of the Registrar and Master as set out under section 16 and Part III of the High Court Act including the following:
Key performance Areas
1. Policy
• Develop, administer and review sound and effective policies and procedures for the management of the operations of the judiciary.
• Formulate, implement and monitor sound and effective judicial practices and quality delivery of justice.
• Facilitates the development and administers conditions of services of the judges of the High Court, judges of the Court of Appeal and Magistrates.


2. Judicial and Legal Administration
• Initiates and drive reforms in the Administration of justices such as the successful implementation of judicial case management, case record management systems etc.
• Exercises the functions of a Sheriff in terms of section 18 of the High Court Act.
• Exercises the functions of the Master of the High Court by managing the Guardian fund, deceased estates and presiding over company liquidations and sequestrations etc.
• Custodian of the Seal of the High Court.
• Plans and manages the Human Resources, budget, finance, accounts and assets of the Administration of justice.
• Oversees successful implementation of applicable Government policies and other initiatives
• Oversees the information management within the Administration of justice and ensures efficient and effective communication with external stakeholders.
• Manages the successful operations of the judiciary.
• Provides secretarial services to the judicial service commission
• Supervises Magistrates.

3. Administrative
• Draws up development and strategic plans for the Administration of the judiciary in line with the National Development Plans and Government policies.
• Initiate, plans and monitors staff and organizational performance improvement of the judiciary.

Qualified Applicants Profile
• To be considered for appointment to this position, candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) and 10 years post qualification work experience as an Attorney or advocate admitted to practice in the Courts of the Republic of Botswana or at least 5 years experience as Chief Magistrate or experience of not less than 10 years in the teaching of law at a recognized University.

Salary: F1: (P441, 396 per annum)
Leave: 30 working days per annum
